"Harlem" (Langston Hughes)

What happens to a dream deffered?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

you didn't go to casti for middle school, but in sixth grade we had a crazy english teacher who acted out that poem one time. for the 'like a heavy load' line she fell onto my desk, pushing all of my stuff off, and then she jumped into the air. it was scary. and remained a joke for all of our seven years at casti.

DUDE. I started jumping up and down and screaming "Ms. Talmadge!!" when I read that post. And then I realized Lindy never had her. So sad.
